Plumbing & Heating - Apprenticeship - Level 2

Overview

The NVQ Level 2 plumbing and heating qualification is designed for anyone who is an apprentice within a plumbing/domestic heating engineer field. It provides all the basic domestic heating and plumbing training you need to start work in the industry. 

Entry requirements

Learners should have a level 2 qualification in English and Maths (GCSE grade 4 or above, or functional skills).

September 2019

How long is the course?

2 years part time (1 day per week day release at college).

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through online tests, portfolio of evidence, assignments and practical testing.

What does the course lead to?

This qualification can help you to progress in a wide range of roles within the domestic plumbing and heating sector, including:

  • Heating and ventilation engineer.
  • Specialised craftsperson (plumber or heating engineer).
  • Project development manager.
  • Senior skilled operative.

Upon successful completion of the Level 2 NVQ, learners can progress onto the Plumbing & Heating (Domestic Plumbing & Heating, Gas Fired Water & Central Heating Appliances) Level 3.

What will I study?

Level 2 will suit you if you have some relevant plumbing and heating knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised. You will cover the following mandatory units:

  • Understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering.
  • Understand and apply domestic hot water system installation and maintenance.
  • Understand and apply domestic above ground drainage system installation and maintenance techniques.
  • Install and maintain domestic heating systems.
