Course outline
Starting with the Logistic Awareness, Customer Service and Warehousing and Storage, Skills in Transport & Logistics all at Level 1, you will develop proficiencies in:
Picking, packing and wrapping goods in a logistics environment
Health and safety in the workplace
Using manual equipment in logistics facilities
Driving hours, health checks and basic tachograph operation
Personal wellbeing including stress and anxiety
Interview techniques and job seeking skills in the logistics environment
DVSA online training – multiple choice, hazard perception & CPC case studies
HGV medical.
On successfully completing the first stage, you will then progress onto the NVQ in Driving Goods Vehicles level 2 course which is a theoretical and practical course where you can gain a Category C (Class 2) large goods driving licence. During this time, you will also be studying online for the DVSA examinations.
Course times, dates and location
Before starting the course, an information and selection day will be held on Wednesday 8 January 2025 | 10.00am-1.00pm.
On the selection day, you will be required to complete assessments in numeracy, literacy, and Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) operation to ensure you meet the necessary standards for enrollment in this programme.
The course will then start on Monday 13 January 2025 and run at the Derby Road campus and Peter Smythe Transport Training Ltd, Sutton-in-Ashfield. This course runs throughout the year, so new dates are to be released soon.
Entry requirements and costs
The course is completely FREE for anyone aged 19 or over (on the 31st August 2024) and earning less than £25,000. You must also live in England and NOT in one of the locations listed here.
Applicants aged 19-23 must already have a full level 2 qualification to be eligible (eg. 5 GCSEs at grade C or above).
All applicants must already hold a B car full driving licence with less than six penalty points.
Prior to starting the course, you will need to attend a selection day where you will complete assessments in numeracy, literacy, and Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) operation to ensure you meet the necessary standards for enrollment in this programme.
