Certificate in Barbering (Adult Fast Track) - Level 2
Overview
The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Barbering has been designed to develop barbering skills to a high level of occupational ability and will prepare you to enter the men's hairdressing sector as a unisex hairdresser.
You will develop knowledge, understanding and skills to enable you to advise and consult with men on how they can achieve their desired look as well as the type of hair cut and facial hair styling that would be most suitable for them. You will also learn how to work in a safe manner for both yourself and your clients.
Entry requirements
A minimum of Level 1 functional skills in English.

How long is the course?
20 weeks.
What does the course lead to?
This qualification will prepare you for employment as a junior unisex hairdresser.
It will widen your career opportunities from working as a hairdresser to being able to offer unisex services through working in a unisex hair salon or working independently through self-employment.
What will I study?
You will study units including:
- Client consultation for hair services
- Cutting men's hair
- Cutting facial hair
- Following health and safety in the salon
Study programmes
It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
