If so, the Access to University (Midwifery) is the course for you.
This online course is a great way to start a new career as it has been designed for adults (aged 19+) who have been out of education for some time and want to re-engage with education but have busy lives and would struggle to commit to studying full-time.
This Access to Higher Education Diploma is a full Level 3 qualification designed to prepare learners without traditional qualifications for entry into Higher Education (HE)? Besides acquiring and developing the knowledge and skills needed to progress to higher education study, you will also develop the communication skills and confidence to progress on to study for a university degree.
You will also study a wide range of topics to gain essential knowledge and insight into the industry.
You could complete this course within one year if you are able to dedicate 10 hours per week. However, this is flexible depending on what hours you can commit. Most students complete between 6 -18 months.

If you are aged 19 or over and either studying a second Level 3 course or qualifying Level 4, 5 or 6 course you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the costs.

Entry requirements
- *A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 4 in English and maths.
- Applicants are strongly advised to complete a work placement or volunteer in health care before joining the course.
This course is eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan
The Advanced Learner Loan is a new scheme introduced by the government to help mature learners study for qualifications that will improve their employability and develop high level skills and knowledge.
Loans are specifically designed for those aged 19 and over, who are intending to study on a Level 3 or higher course – including Access to HE Diplomas.
Best of all, if you successfully go on to complete an HE qualification following an Access to University course – you won’t even have to pay the loan back.

How long is the course?
Most students complete between 6 -18 months but this is dependent on the amount of time dedicated to studying each week which is determined by the learner.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed on the assignments that are set regularly throughout the course. - completed in your own time.
To successfully achieve this Access to Higher Education Diploma, you will need 60 credits in total. The credits are split into the following two categories:
- Graded – 45 credits come from graded units, which focus on the academic subject
- Ungraded – 15 credits come from ungraded units, such as writing and study skills
