Information Technology (Vocational) - Level 3
Overview
This is an OCR Technical Extended Certificate Qualification and will develop the core knowledge, skills and understanding required in the IT sector. The course will cover a range of mandatory units (cyber security, fundamentals of IT etc) before you chooose a specialist pathway of either IT infrastructure, technician or application developer.
This qualification is the equivalent of one A Level and must be studied alongside two other A Level subjects.

Entry requirements
Five GCSEs with at least grade 4/C including English language and maths. Science with 44/CC (double science) or 444/CCC (triple science).
You will need to supply a written reference from your school/college teacher and/or a current school or college report with an indication of your attendance pattern and achievements. This will need to be uploaded to your myVISION account by the end of May.
How long is the course?
This qualification is the equivalent of one A Level and is to be studied alongside two A levels for two years.
How will I be assessed?
The mandatory units are externally examined.
Graded Distinction*, Distinction, Merit and Pass.
Students will be awarded 56 UCAS points for Distinction*, 48 UCAS points for Distinction, 32 UCAS points for Merit and 16 UCAS points for a Pass.

What will I study?
Learners will be able to develop the core knowledge, skills and understanding required in the IT sector and develop further skills by completing a range of units. Learners must achieve a total of five units consisting of two mandatory examined units and three further units. The choice of units will depend on the specialist pathway selected.

Study programmes
It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
