HNC Future Homes Design and Construction - Level 4
Overview
The purpose of BTEC Higher Nationals in Future Homes Design and Construction is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the construction and the built environment sector and adapt to a constantly changing world; with specific emphases on the design, manufacture and installation of housing, using off-site, factory-built and new technologies. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them.
Entry requirements
In order to start this course, you will need to have successfully completed a minimum of one of the following:
- Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Construction / Building Services / Civil Engineering with MM/DMM profile
- 3 A-Levels grade C or above, to include Physics and maths
- Level 3 City and Guild vocational qualification in a construction or building service related discipline
- Alternatively, we will consider substantial experience in a construction-related field (4-5 years).
We normally also require GCSE English and maths at grade C/grade 4 or above: English and maths at Level 2 are essential requirements.

How long is the course?
2 years, part-time for 1 day a week.
You will also need to dedicate a substantial amount of time to research and work outside the classroom.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment methods are varied and may include written reports or essays, academic posters or displays, work-based projects, PowerPoint presentations, recordings of interviews and the creation of design documents.
