Functional Skills Maths

Overview

Functional Skills qualifications are intended for anyone wishing to develop their maths and English skills. They focus on the underpinning of skills as well as the ability to apply maths and English to different contexts.

Our flexible learning takes place during daytime and evenings at our Adult Learning Centre on Chesterfield Road South in the centre of Mansfield.


Start dates and fees

You can start the course at any time during the year. You can study on a flexible basis, with multiple sessions per week so you are able to attend at times that suit your existing commitments and lifestyle.


What will I study?

Functional Skills maths qualifications will enable you to:

  • become confident in your use of fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills, as described through the content
  • indicate that you can demonstrate your understanding by applying your knowledge and skills to solve simple mathematical problems or carry out simple tasks.

Entry requirements

You will undertake an initial assessment to determine what level you are currently working at and what level of course is right for you.


How long is the course?

Each course usually takes about 4-6 months, depending on how many sessions per week you attend.


How will I be assessed?

There is a test at the end of the course.


What does the course lead to?

Employment or further study.


What can I progress onto?

  • Higher level Functional Skills
  • GCSE maths.
