Functional Skills Maths (Free)

Overview

This FREE course is intended for anyone wishing to develop their maths ability and will focus on basic skills and how to apply them in everyday life. You can progress through the Functional Skills levels which can then lead to gaining a nationally recognised qualification such as GCSE Maths.

You can choose to study online or on-campus with daytime and evening study options available at our Adult Learning Centre. This is your chance to learn maths at your own pace in small groups in a discreet and supportive environment.


To study online, you must:

  • Attend an in-person open day (course registration) - see below
  • Be an adult aged 19 and over (on 31 August 2023)
  • Be an EU or UK citizen with a passport or ID card
  • Have a proof of address, bank statement or bill dated within the past three months.

Before you can study this course online, you must attend an open day to register on this course, receive your log-in details and complete an initial assessment where we will identify your current working level and give you further information. Start dates and fees

You can start the course at any time during the year. You can study on a flexible basis, with multiple on-campus sessions per week so you are able to attend at times that suit your existing commitments and lifestyle.

Daytime

  • Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10.00am-12.30pm.

Evening

  • Mondays and Thursdays, 5.30-7.00pm
  • Tuesdays, 6.30-8.00pm.

What will I study?

Functional Skills maths qualifications will enable you to:

  • become confident in your use of fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills, as described through the content
  • indicate that you can demonstrate your understanding by applying your knowledge and skills to solve simple mathematical problems or carry out simple tasks.

Entry requirements

You will undertake an initial assessment to determine what level you are currently working at and what level of course is right for you.


How long is the course?

4-6 months, depending on how many sessions per week you attend.


How will I be assessed?

There is a test at the end of the course.
