Overview
On this course you will learn the skills and knowledge for a career in the motor vehicle industry. In the purpose-built centre you will work alongside industry experts to study engines, chassis, transmissions and frames, and health and safety.

Entry requirements
- Grade 4 or above in English and maths and level 1 motor vehicle qualification.
16-18 year old applicants:
You will need to supply a copy of your most up-to-date school/college report or a reference from a teacher/employer. Please upload this to your myVISION account by the end of May 2021.
19+ year old applicants:
Mature students (those aged 19 or over) who do not have the qualifications required for entry may still be eligible. Relevant experience, a strong portfolio of work and a commitment to the subject you wish to study may be acceptable for certain courses. You will also be required to supply a written reference either from a recent educational institution or employer. Please upload this to your myVISION account by the end of May 2021. If you are not able to gain a reference, please contact admission@wnc.ac.uk for further advice.

How long is the course?
One year.
How will I be assessed?
You will complete a portfolio of evidence including practical assessments, online and written exams for each topic you study. You will also be expected to pass an exam in one Functional Skill.
What will I study?
Modules include:
- Health and safety
- Workshop practice
- Steering
- Suspension and braking systems
- Vehicle electrics e.g. lighting, starting and charging systems
- Engine and transmissions
- Petrol and diesel engines
- Ignition systems.
Study programmes
It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
