How long is the course?

The course takes a minimum of one year to complete depending on the chosen study pattern.

Attendance is part-time afternoon and evening each week, to complete the course in one year.

Alternatively, students can study either afternoons or evenings, which would lead to the level being completed in 18 to 24 months.

How will I be assessed?

Each unit is assessed by a 3 hour written exam with questions, which require essay-style answers. The exams take place in January, March, May, July and November.

What will I study?

Five modules are studied for the Professional diploma.

These 3 units are compulsory:

  • Leadership in procurement and supply
  • Corporate and business strategy
  • Strategic supply chain management

These are the optional units offered by the College:

  • Supply chain diligence
  • Programme and project management

Details of the syllabus for each module can be found on the CIPS website

CIPS has embarked on a review of its professional qualifications from Certificate through to Professional Diploma. This review ensures that CIPS qualifications will continue to meet the future challenges and demands of global organisations and the procurement and supply profession as a whole.

No immediate changes will happen with your current study plan so don’t stop or delay your studies as everything you achieve will remain valid and transfer over when CIPS update the qualifications.

You can find more information about the review CIPS are undertaking on the dedicated webpage they have set up.

This means that the units detailed on the schedule are those that we will be offering. Once CIPS has confirmed any changes they wish to make to the qualifications, we will work to update the timetable accordingly.

Study programmes

It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification. Find out more.

What can I go on to study?

On successful completion of the Diploma, Advanced and Professional diplomas along with three years' experience in a position of responsibility in procurement and supply you will be awarded MCIPS status.

Once you have MCIPS status, you could apply for Chartered Status or CIPS Fellowship.
