Animal Management - Level 3
Overview
The qualification you receive will be the City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management. Throughout your time on your course, you will undertake a range of tasks including animal health and husbandry, animal nutrition, behaviour, welfare and management. You will access the Derby Road site on two or 3 days for classroom-based delivery and one day, in practice, at a local farm.
Work experience
You will be required to undertake 150 hours work experience, 60 hours which will be required prior to enrolment.

Entry requirements
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4/C to include maths and English and a minimum of two weeks' work experience in animal care at a relevant and validated organisation; or at least two GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English and maths and Level 2 in Animal Care (or a related qualification) at Merit level or Distinction.
16-18 year old applicants:
You will need to supply a copy of your most up-to-date school/college report or a reference from a teacher/employer. Please upload this to your myVISION account by the end of May 2021.
19+ year old applicants:
Your will need to supply a written reference either from a recent educational institution or employer. Please upload this to your myVISION account by the end of May 2021. If you are not able to gain a reference, please contact admission@wnc.ac.uk for further advice.
Here you may need to show evidence of at least 60 hours industry work experience.

* If you are aged 19-23 and studying your first Level 3 course then that course may be free. Please contact us for more details. If you are aged 19 or over and either studying a second Level 3 course or qualifying Level 4, 5 or 6 course you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the costs.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through 3 written exams for the core modules and for Biological Systems. You will also be assessed through course work and practical assessments for optional units. Finally, you will undertake a Synoptic Project (which incorporates practical assessments and course work assignments – carried out under controlled conditions).

Study programmes
It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
