FAQs - MTFC performance courses

The following information will hopefully give you a little bit more of an insight into what it will be like to be a student with us.

  • Where will I study?

All of our sports courses are based at our Derby Road site. Your training and matches will take place at RH Academy in Pleasley. Transport to and from RH Academy will be arranged during training, but you may need to make your own transport arrangements on match days.

  • What is it like?

The college is a professional environment intended to prepare you to work in industry. Additionally, you will also be representing a professional organisation - Mansfield Town Football Club. As such, we expect behaviour to be in line with what it would be in the world of work. Attendance and punctuality are very important, as you will potentially be entering a career where you may be working as a coach with young people behaviour in college and at home can also have an impact on your progression to the career of your choice.

  • What will I study?

You will study a mixture of practical and classroom study – practical activity may include sport, drills, first aid, outward bound and orientation. Working at Level 3 standard requires an academic approach to include correct use of punctuation, spelling and grammar. Additionally, you will be assessed through a variety of methods such as written assignments, presentations, practical demonstrations and exams. A full list of units are available on our website.

  • What about English and maths?

It is mandatory that you achieve a grade 4 or above in both GCSE English and maths in order to enrol on this programme.

  • What will I have to wear?

Students will be required to wear West Nottinghamshire College uniform during college hours. During training and matches you will be required to wear the Mansfield Town FC training kit. For practical sessions you will be expected to wear loose clothing/sports kit and appropriate footwear depending on the activity.

  • Will I have to do a work placement?

At levels 2 and 3 students would be expected to complete a work placement. This is a great way of getting your foot in the door, and may lead to future jobs. The central team may be able to find one for you. However, as the course also includes training and matches within a football capacity, your hours can be submitted as work experience where additional work experience is not achieved.
