We can help you to access enthusiastic individuals looking for work placements to help their future career. Matching your business to one or more of these learners comes at no cost to you.
Working in partnership with West Notts College, you can offer a placement to a young person aged 16–25 with a disability or complex learning need, helping them take their first step towards paid employment. There is no cost to you as an employer – instead, you gain an extra pair of hands, while making a real difference to someone’s future.
Each internship runs for around six months and is delivered mainly in the workplace. You’ll receive ongoing support from the college, ensuring that both you and your intern have the guidance and resources needed to make the placement a success. From job coaches to regular reviews, we are here to help create a positive experience that benefits your business as much as it does the individual.
FAQs
- What are the benefits to my business?
By offering a supported internship, you can access a pipeline of potentially excellent future employees through the local college network. It also demonstrates that your business values diversity and inclusion, enhancing your reputation as an employer that welcomes people from all walks of life. Many employers find that staff members grow too, developing new mentoring and leadership skills. On top of this, taking part shows clear commitment to the Equality Act 2010 and can help you gain recognition as a Disability Confident employer.
- What do I need to provide?
All we ask is that you can offer a placement lasting at least six months, with the opportunity for the intern to progress into permanent employment if it’s the right fit. The role should provide a genuine chance for them to build valuable workplace and life skills.
- What job roles are you looking for?
Entry-level roles are ideal, but a range of opportunities can work – from administration and hospitality through to retail, logistics or customer service. If you’re unsure whether your vacancies are suitable, we’ll happily discuss them with you and help you find the right match.
- What support will be available?
You won’t be on your own. A trained job coach will support both you and your intern to make sure tasks are understood and carried out effectively. We’ll provide guidance on any reasonable adjustments, deliver regular reviews, and offer training and advice to your wider team if required. Disability awareness training can also be provided as an option.
- Am I expected to employ the intern at the end?
There’s no obligation to offer ongoing employment, although many employers find they don’t want to lose their intern once the placement is complete. Bringing disabled people into your workforce can help your business grow, and if permanent employment isn’t possible, you’ll still have played a vital role in supporting their future career.
