Support and guidance

From study skills and summer school, to additional learning support, childcare and wellbeing; as an HE student you’ll have access to a number of support and guidance services.

Study support

At Vision West Nottinghamshire College we provide you with teaching, learning and support that will improve both your skills and confidence.

As one of our HE students, you will have access to a dedicated HE study skills coach, one-to-one support and generic study skills workshops that cover themes including time management, reflective writing, reading for purpose, data analysis and essay planning and writing (held throughout the year).

Maths and statistics with Sigma

Need help or a refresher in maths? Vision West Nottinghamshire College is one of only two colleges nationally to receive funding from the Sigma network for excellence in mathematics and statistics support.

From one-to-one sessions and support for data analysis and research evaluation, to bespoke support for engineering maths, we are able to offer a wide range of resources to support your maths development within your course, at no cost to you.

Summer school

If you are wondering whether or not you’ll cope with university-level education; if you are returning to study after a long break, or if you want to gain more confidence in university-level coursework, study and assessments, then you will want to book onto our Summer School workshops. Workshops include research skills, referencing, critical thinking and more.

Our experienced tutors will help you in establishing your starting point and potential areas for development, and will guide you through the techniques and strategies to help you progress.

As you begin your course, summer school sessions help you to prepare you for that first day in September – but we don’t stop there. We offer transitional Summer School workshops as you progress to your next years on your programme, to help you properly prepare for the next level of study.

Information on dates and workshop topics are made available during your applicant event.

Additional support

Additional learning support

Vision West Nottinghamshire College has an extensive range of support available to students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

In Higher Education the funding is applied for via Student Finance England (SFE). Formal diagnosis of additional need is required to enable any application for Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) to be considered, which could include a full educational psychologist report. Early disclosure and application is essential, as it can take several months to get the support you need in place.

If you would like to discuss any disability or a specific need, please contact the additional learning support team:
