Overview
Physics is a fundamental science subject and the key to understanding the world around us and the world beyond us.
Physics is the study of matter, energy, force and motion, which can challenge our imagination and lead to world-changing discoveries such as lasers and computers.
The course tutor is a professional physicist with a wealth of specialist knowledge and experience. As an A Level Physics student you can expect to learn valuable, transferable skills such as problem solving and analysis.

What will I study?
You will develop your understanding of standard laboratory experimental techniques and follow the renowned 'Advancing Physics' programme developed by the Gatsby Foundation and Institute of Physics. This course is assessed by examination scheduled for May/June. A separate practical endorsement qualification is assessed in lessons throughout the two years.
Entry requirements
- GCSE English Language grade 4-9,
- GCSE Maths grade 6-9
- GCSE Double Science grade 6/6 plus another GCSE grade 4-9
OR
- GCSE Triple Science - Physics grade 6-9 plus two another GCSE grade 4-9
OR
- GCSE Triple Science grade 6/6/5.
Following your application you will normally be offered a place subject to achieving the entry requirements and attending a welcome taster.

If you're a student between the ages of 16 and 18 (or 19 to 25 with an EHC Plan) we want to make sure you have the best possible chances of landing an awesome job once you finish college.
Students who haven't achieved a grade 4/C in GCSE maths or English to continue studying these subjects while you're here with us. By doing so, you'll be building a strong foundation of skills that will significantly boost your employability in the future.
Think of it as a chance to supercharge your knowledge and abilities. You'll be equipped with the tools necessary to tackle the world beyond college with confidence. Plus, we'll be right here to support you every step of the way.
In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.
How long is the course?
Two years.
How will I be assessed?
This course is assessed primarily by examination scheduled for May/June at the end of the second year with some additional practical assessments.
What does the course lead to?
Careers are often pursued as an engineering technician, physical scientists, civil engineer, architect and more.
What can I progress onto?
Further study at university-level* in a range of courses including astronomy, engineering, medicine and information technology.
