MTFC Women’s Football Programme - Extended Diploma in Sport (Advanced) - Level 3
Overview
New for 2024, an exclusive course created in partnership with Mansfield Town Football Club tailored for young women looking to build a solid foundation in the dynamic world of women’s football.
Throughout the course, you'll explore a diverse array of topics designed to empower you in your pursuit. From comprehensive exploration of anatomy and physiology to the intricacies of fitness training and programming, you'll also gain insights into sports therapy and much more.
Immersive learning experiences await you, both within the classroom and beyond, where you'll have the unique opportunity to leverage professional facilities, honing your skills through hands-on projects seamlessly integrated with sports theory. As part of this, you'll actively engage in planning and leading women’s football coaching sessions, making an impact across the college and the local community.
As a full-time football programme, your weekly schedule will incorporate five dynamic days, combining intensive training sessions twice a week with the thrill of match days every Wednesday. As an added highlight, you'll have the opportunity to compete in the new AOC League, under the guidance of seasoned UEFA qualified coaches.
Upon completion, you will have a nationally recognised qualification (equivalent to three A-Levels) comprehensive knowledge base, and unwavering confidence, paving the way for seamless progression to higher education, a rewarding apprenticeship, or the exciting realm of professional employment.

Work placement
During the course you will also be required to undertake a minimum of 20 hours of work placement in an area linked to your career aspirations.
Entry requirements
- This course is only available to 16-18 year olds
- Four GCSEs grade 4-9 including English Language and Maths plus a successful trial with our football programme (see below).
All applicants must also attend a trial day, which will include:
- Meet and greet
- Warm-up games
- Passing drills
- Possession games and small-sided games (SSGs)
- Final match

If you are not studying a traditional GCSE programme, we accept alternative qualifications like Functional Skills and vocational courses. Study programmes - essential skills for employment
If you’re aged 16-18 (or 19-25 with an EHC Plan), we want to make sure you have the best possible chances of landing an awesome job once you finish college.
Therefore, if you do not have GCSE grade 4-9 in either English Language or Maths, you will study one or both of these courses alongside your full-time study programme. If you do have GCSE grade 4-9 in English Language and Maths then you will not be required to undertake these subjects. By doing so, you'll be building a stronger set of skills that will significantly boost your employability in the future.
Think of it as a chance to supercharge your knowledge and abilities. You'll be equipped with the tools necessary to tackle the world beyond college with confidence. Plus, we'll be right here to support you every step of the way.
