Overview

Are you interested by the world of medicine? 

If so, the Access to HE Diploma (Medicine) is the course for you. This course is specifically designed for adults (aged 19+) who have been out of education for some time and want to re-engage with education, make a career change or retrain to become a doctor.

The course is made up of various modules designed to prepare you for the demands of higher level study. You will become a critical thinker, develop writing techniques and research skills. 

You can prepare by reading around your subject via our booklist and purchase recommended items from our kit list, you can find these here. Please be aware that as an Access learner you might be eligible to receive a college laptop for you to use for the duration of your course.

Once you’ve finished your Access to HE course, you may choose to stay and study a degree in Nursing (Adult) or Nursing (Mental Health), or a Certificate of HE in Ambulance Technician Practice at the NTU Mansfield Centre on our Derby Road campus, which is run by Nottingham Trent University.

Entry requirements

  • A minimum of five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English, maths (higher tier), and science at grade B or 5/6.

How long is the course?

  • 1 year

How will I be assessed?

In order to prepare you for university, the assessments on this course will be varied. You will deliver professional presentations, write work booklets, laboratory reports and essays, and sit classroom based exams.


What does the course lead to?

Upon successful completion of this course students can progress to undergraduate medicine. However, students could also progress to a wide range of health and science based higher education courses. Examples include Biomedical Science, Biological and Medical Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Conservation and Ecology, Dietetics, Dental Therapy and Hygiene, Geology, Forensic Science, Marine Biology, Nutrition, Optometry, Paramedic Science, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Radiography and Zoology.

As we are a partner college of Nottingham Trent University (NTU), you may qualify for various benefits should you choose to apply to NTU after completing your college course. This could include a Progress NTU offer, where you would receive an offer one grade below their standard offer. For instance, a typical offer for one of their courses might require 128 UCAS tariff points. With Progress NTU, your requirements would be 120 UCAS tariff points.
