Biography

Angela has worked at the college a number of years in different roles. Starting off as an assessor for adult students to gain qualification for their roles as residential support workers and foster carers in children services. She then managed teams that supported adult education like teaching assistants and counselling as well as the wide range of community courses the college offers. In 2015 she moved to health and social care for our 16-18-year- old students.

Her background is working in children’s services caring and supporting children and young people with a wide range of learning disabilities. She worked for two different private organisations that specialised in education as well as care for children of a variety of ages and needs. During her time with one organisation, she had the opportunity to take her assessors qualification and assess and then later train staff and this is where her teaching career began. She is the eldest daughter of parents who fostered children and young people from 1979-2000 in the local area. After ten years working in Cheshire, Angela came back to the area and began working for the college.

As well as her vocational and teaching qualifications Angela also holds a BA (Hons) in Business Management which she was supported to do by the college. Achieving this degree whilst managing several teams in her full-time role is her key achievement in her teaching career.

Angela teaches across both Level 2 and Level 3 in health and social care and delivers a wide range of subjects like equality and diversity, communication, working in health and social care and many more. Angela enjoys supporting students to achieve their full potential. She attends regular placements to ensure her knowledge of the sector is current. She uses this knowledge in her teaching of subjects like communication and equality and diversity to give real life experiences for her students to reflect on. In Angela’s sessions she looks at the different types and methods of communication uses in health and social care settings like Makaton, PECS and explores the different communication needs and preferences people may have. She also looks at discrimination and how this can be avoided when caring and supporting individuals.
