Biography
Ben is a professional bricklayer with a passion for the construction industry. Ben studied his trade qualifications at Melton Brooksby College before progressing onto his HNC in construction at Leicester College. Since a change of career into teaching Ben successfully passed his Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Sector at Bishop Grosseteste University. Ben also is a qualified assessor and Verifier.
Prior to teaching, Ben was a self-employed bricklayer working on small, medium and large building projects across the UK. Ben started in the education sector working at a pupil referral unit (PRU) before moving into FE at Stamford College where he work his way up to assistant head of department. Ben came to work at West Nottinghamshire College in 2022 as a brickwork lecturer and is now programme area lead for brickwork, plastering, painting and decorating.
Ben co-ordinates a variety of programmes and delivers to Level 1 and 2 bricklaying courses as well as the apprentices. He is a specialist in brick, block and cavity wall construction with a vast knowledge of the construction industry.
Ben’s passion and enthusiasm for his trade enables students to develop their practical skills.
Ben enjoys many outdoor sports, from going out on his moto cross bike, playing a round of golf or having a chilled weekend at the lake with his fishing rods.
