Biography
John is an experienced computing teacher with over 18 years of curriculum teaching experience, delivering a wide range of practical and theoretical computing units from Level 1 to 4 on courses such as BTECs, A-Levels and Cambridge Technical qualifications. John also has experience of Higher Education delivery.
As well as working as a teacher John’s experiences range from youth worker to data planning officer at Nottingham Trent University, all of which have contributed to the classroom experience he delivers. John’s industry experience ensures that he is able to fully prepare our students for the expectations of the workplace.
During his time at West Nottinghamshire College, John has combined his further education teaching with developing and delivering digital apprenticeships in software development, data analytics and digital marketing.
Working alongside large local employers such as the NHS and Linney Group, John has his finger on the pulse of industry. He has led on a variety of projects and initiatives and has been instrumental in the implementation of the apprenticeship provision. John has a wide range of skills meaning that he is able to support students and colleagues alike.
His diverse computing skills have been developed over a number of years. His Bachelors of Science First Class Honours Degree from Sheffield Hallam University in Applied Computing has provided a wealth of subject knowledge, ranging from database design and programming to computing research and theory.
He is adept in digital marketing, using social media in business and is familiar with whole range of software such as SQL, Python, C# and Power BI. His industry experience has honed his skills in data analysis and project management, providing his students with valuable insights into the industry they are aspiring to work in.
