Clare’s award joy

Posted: 01 February 2012

A Vision West Notts student is celebrating after scooping a prestigious award.

Clare Kowalski won the Train to Gain award at this year's Nottinghamshire Work-Based Learning Awards, held at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham, on Thursday (26 January).

The annual awards, run by Nottinghamshire Training Network (NTN), are held to celebrate and recognise the achievements of individuals and employers throughout the county.

Clare, who works as a shift leader in the contact centre at Center Parcs’ headquarters in New Ollerton, Notts, received a trophy and £300 worth of vouchers.

The 37-year-old, from Mansfield Woodhouse, recently completed an NVQ Level 3 in Customer Service at the college.

She said: “It was a great surprise to discover I’d been nominated for an award.  It was a great ceremony and I feel proud to have been recognised for my hard work.

“I am especially thankful to my employers for letting me access this training and I am grateful to my tutor, Julie, who helped me with my studies and supported me throughout.”

Clare’s tutor Julie Ryder said: “Clare hadn’t undertaken any training for some considerable time so she was apprehensive about returning to studying.

"While on the Train to Gain Programme Clare gained promotion and was nominated for a Center Parcs Award.  She had to cope with a demanding home life and also coped with her dog destroying part of her portfolio of evidence!

“Together we rebuilt her portfolio and Clare went on to produce excellent work which reflected her professionalism.”
