Film and television students from West Nottinghamshire College had the red carpet rolled out for them, along with their family and friends, who were invited to watch their final projects on the big screen at Mansfield’s Odeon Cinema.
Students from the Advanced Content, Media and Film Production course created a series of music videos, documentaries, short films and streaming video content which formed their final assessment projects at the end of the course.
For each project students had to plan, cast and schedule their choice of media, then use their filming and editing skills to create the piece.
Everyone was required to create promotional materials to accompany the project, ensuring they mentioned cast and crew, created a logline and synopsis, stated the running time, the year made, formatting and language that it was filmed in and provide an audience rating.
The final twelve films were then showcased at Mansfield’s Odeon Cinema thanks to the partnership working with cinema manager Nathan Sakkal-Hannah.
The 36-year-old was a former media student at the college back in 2008. Nathan completed his film and TV course before going to university. He starting to work for Odeon in 2018, becoming manager of the Mansfield cinema in 2020.
Nathan said: “I was a student at the college when the course was run from the Thoresby Street campus and the programme was pretty much the same as what these students have covered.
“Jon Hall was also my tutor and my time at college was a real turning point in my life. Working with Jon gave me a lot of confidence and really inspired my love for film as well as looking at what goes on behind the camera. It started a lifelong passion for everything film.
“Here at the Odeon, I’ve been able to take my love of film into the work environment and it’s great to see people rediscovering their love for the big screen. I bumped into Jon again about a year ago and reconnected, so it’s been great to be able to present the students’ work on the screen and acknowledge their work.”
Media teacher Jon Hall said: “Nathan and the staff at Odeon are keen on connecting with the community and he recognises the hard work and dedication that the students have put into the film and video content this year.
“In giving us a screen for our end-of-year projects they provided our students with a prestigious, professional environment to showcase their talents. The Odeon treated them like the superstars they truly are!”
