A very fine royal tea

Posted: 05 May 2023

A royal-themed tea party was the order of this afternoon (Friday 5 May 2023) for level 1 business students at West Nottinghamshire College, as they hosted their own Coronation afternoon tea.

Serving up sandwiches, cakes, scones and tea to their guests, the group proudly made the event a day to remember, with specially-invited staff members accepting their kind offer to enjoy the festivities in the lead up to the official Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla this weekend.

The group has worked with business teacher Jess White for one hour a week since February to organise and plan the royal event.

Designing the tables, décor and adjacent corridor, the students went into every regal detail, even organising a slideshow throughout the party. On a budget of just £50 to purchase food, drink and decorations, they managed their budgeting skills exceptionally.

Teacher Jess said: “Our students have done exceptionally well with a short timeframe and a strict budget, and having the confidence to bring this all together was just brilliant. We wanted to let the organise something outside of the curriculum to celebrate the King’s Coronation, but at the same time let them hone their communication, teamwork and presentation skills that are all vital requirements in the world of work. To deliver in front of the principal today, they really showed their professionalism.”

“We’re very grateful to Refined for loaning the crockery and for the GCSE team who kindly agreed to switch a class slot with me to give us the time to organise this wonderful event.”

Feedback from those who attended included “Excellent scones and incredible muffins”, “The service was second to none, I’ve been really looked after”, “Great service with smiles.”

A huge well done to students Kamilia Brendel, Vinzlee Garcia, Harry Giltrow, Tom Hall, Jack Hancock, Felicity Holland, Beth Plummer, Ben Pressley and Adam Scott.

Vinzlee Garcia said: “I’ve really enjoyed inviting people to our event and then serving them. It’s been a pleasure to give them some lovely Coronation-themed food and it turned out to be an amazing afternoon.”
