Forty fundraisers put their best feet forward

Posted: 23 June 2021

Childcare students from West Nottinghamshire College got off to a sunny start last week with a fundraising walk for a national charity.

As part of their learning company’s mission, Level 2 Early Years students have chosen the NSPCC as their charity of choice to raise cash for. Students have organised their own Go Fund Me page and have been busy over the last term encouraging family, friends, staff and students to contribute to their charitable missions.

Learning companies have been introduced across a range of the college’s curriculum areas to provide students with a variety of employability skills such as teamwork, marketing, sales and fundraising. The childcare groups have been busy throughout the academic year with a number of fundraising ideas as part of their learning company.

On Wednesday (16 June) more than 40 students took part in a sponsored walk from the college’s Derby Road campus to the local woodland known as Thieves Wood. The walk, which covered over two miles, included a picnic in the forest and time for students to socialise with fellow classmates.

As part of the main fundraising mission for the NSPCC the group have also been organising a ‘guess the name of the bear’ competition at the college. During their morning and lunchtime breaks they’ve been asking staff and students to take a guess – 50p for one go, £1 for three goes.

Enrichment and learning company coach Eleanor O’Hara said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the efforts that these groups have put into their project. They’ve worked with such enthusiasm putting together creative fundraising ideas and they’ve worked with confidence on the marketing and communications side of things as well as engaging people in their project.

“Through these great efforts we’ve raised over £496 in total for the NSPCC and everyone should be justifiably proud of their work.”
