Posted: 12 February 2020

Performing arts and musical theatre students at West Nottinghamshire College enjoyed life in the capital last week and saw two London shows in the city’s Covent Garden area.

They were lucky enough to see Sarah Bareilles, who is the lead part in Waitress, at the Adelphi Theatre and then in the evening The Play That Goes Wrong at the Duchess Theatre.

Tutor Simon Watt said: The students always look forward to this day and it’s one of the highlights of the year for the department. For some it’s the first time they’ve seen a West End production and this raises motivation in giving them a level of professional performance to aspire to.

“This year for our matinee performance we were lucky enough to see Waitress at the Adelphi Theatre with Sarah Bareilles in the lead role. She not only originated the role on Broadway but also wrote the songs for the musical and is only in the London show for a six-week run. Our evening show - The Play That Goes Wrong - students howled with laughter at this but were able to take valuable lessons in comedic timing and ensemble performance skills.

“Students were able to spend some time in Covent Garden taking in the sights and sounds of the city and enjoying street theatre and busking performances. A highly enjoyable and enriching day all round.”
