Learners on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT (Software Development) spent a day at its world-famous Old Trafford stadium where club teaching staff gave them a taught session and a guided tour of its latest facilities.

They discovered how the football club is using computerised technology and data to support the business; gaining first-hand knowledge of how IT systems help it to make informed decisions about all ticket sales, turnstiles, as well as keep track on the marketing and player development.

Students will incorporate the information gained on the day within their assignments on controlling systems using IT and information systems.

Programme area leader for computer science, John Gell, said: “It was an excellent trip which gave our students a valuable insight into how a globally-recognisable football club such as Manchester United is utilising IT systems in its day-to-day activities and forward planning.

“Both the tour and educational talk were informative and supportive to the students’ studies.”
