Higher Education Graduation - FAQs

• When and where is the ceremony?

  The ceremony will be held on Saturday 16 November 2019 at Kelham Hall, Newark. Please see the map for directions (Listed on the map as Kelham Hall & Country Park).

  The ceremony starts at 11.45am. Please arrive between 8.45-10am to register, collect your gown and have any photography taken.

• What time should I arrive?

  Please arrive between 8.45-10am. This will give you time for photographs, gowning and to be seated. The ceremony starts at 11:45am.

• How do I hire a gown?

  Official graduation gowns can be hired from Ede & Ravenscroft . We have arranged for a discounted gown and photography package for £54. You can order online . online using ‘West Nottinghamshire College’ as the institution, then pick your course’s awarding body.

  The photography package is the basic package consisting of one 10”x8” and two 5”x4” prints. You will be able to upgrade your package when you book the standard package online or on the day, but can only pay using cash due to the location of the venue.

• How many guests can I bring?

  You can bring two guests to the ceremony. One ticket is free of charge, and any other tickets will be charged at £5 each.

• How do I apply for additional guest tickets?

  Additional guest tickets will be released on Monday 28 October 2019 and will be on a first come, first served basis. Additional guest tickets will be limited to a maximum of three, in addition to the three you have already been allocated. This would give you a total of five guest tickets and one ticket for yourself. These additional guest tickets can only be requested by emailing tina.wakelin@wnc.ac.uk. Additional guest tickets will be charged at £5 each.

• What should I wear?

  We recommend that you wear smart clothing. A shirt with buttons is advised, as well as grips for your mortarboard. Please also note that there are steps leading up to the stage - sensible shoes are therefore recommended.

• I haven’t received my invitation. What should I do?

  If you haven’t received an invitation and think you should have done, please email tina.wakelin@wnc.ac.uk or phone 0800 100 3626

• I or one of my guests has a disability or special requirement. What should I do?

  Please contact tina.wakelin@wnc.ac.uk indicating your requirements. There is also a space on the registration form for you to specify requirements.

• Will my certificate be available for collection?

  Yes. Certificates will be available for collection after the ceremony.

• I cannot attend the ceremony. When will I receive my certificate?

  If you can’t attend the ceremony, please tick the box to indicate this on the registration form and confirm your postal address. Without this confirmation there may be a delay in receiving your certificate.

• Is the ceremony suitable for children?

  Children are welcome to attend. Please note the ceremony will last between 1-1.5 hours. Tickets for children under five are free, but please note they will have to sit on their parent’s / carers’ knee. If an attending child is over five years of age, they will require a seat and will therefore require a guest ticket.

• Will refreshments be available?

  There will be a range of pastries available upon your arrival. Tea, coffee and water will be provided.

• Is there parking available at the venue?

  Yes, Car parking is available on site. Please note - there may be a small charge from the venue. Details to follow.

• Will I sit with my guest?

  No. Guests and graduates will be seated separately.

• Can I take my own photographs?

  Yes. Photographs and video cameras are permitted. We ask that you do not block any aisles when taking photographs.

• Can I arrange for photographs to be taken of me and my guests?

• I am going on to top up my degree at university. Can I attend another graduation ceremony next year, as well as the one this year?

  Yes. If you attend this year, you will still be eligible to attend graduation next year on completion of your course.
