Overview
Do you want to work in social care?
Year 1 (Technical Certificate in Health and Social Care) of this qualification will provide you with the theoretical and practical underpinnings needed to apply for your chosen industry pathway in year 2 (Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care). These allow you to take a tailored approach to your career and provide UCAS points so you can go to university to learn about your chosen pathway and work in a rewarding sector.
This course can lead to jobs in the care sector such as social or youth work.

* If you are aged 19-23 and studying your first Level 3 course then that course may be free. Please contact us for more details. If you are aged 19 or over and either studying a second Level 3 course or qualifying Level 4, 5 or 6 course you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the costs.

Entry requirements
- Grade 4 in English language and maths, plus two other GCSEs at grade 4. Or, a Level 2 health and social care qualification with at least a grade 4 in English and maths.
- You will also need to be successful in an interview
- An Enhanced DBS check
- You will be required to purchase a uniform.
If you are a young person who is not currently studying a traditional GCSE programme, we will consider alternative qualifications such as functional skills and vocational qualifications.

Study programmes - essential skills for employment
As an entry requirement on some of our courses, you will need a GCSE in both English and maths with at least a grade 4/C (please see entry requirements above).
If this isn’t displayed under the entry requirements and you don’t currently have a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4/C or above before joining us, you will then study English and maths as part of your programme with the aim of achieving a qualification with at least a grade 4/C. This is to help improve your chances of employment once you leave us.
In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.
How long is the course?
2 years.
How will I be assessed?
Assignment based with a variety of different tasks such as producing reports and information packs.
