T Level in Health - Level 3

IMPORTANT NOTICE
We are currently waiting on the outcome of the government's ‘pause and review’ of the Level 3 qualification reform. This may result in a change to qualifications offered at Level 3 for academic year 2025/2026. If you're interested in the world of health care and health science, this T Level may be exactly what you need to get into a rewarding career helping other people.
This T Level will cover all aspects of working in the health sector and includes a substantial work placement from which you will gain valuable practical experience to support your career goals. It can also provide essential knowledge and skills needed to progress on to a higher level apprenticeship or university.
On this two-year course, you will study the core health pathway for the first year, progressing onto your chosen pathway of either the ‘Supporting the Adult Nursing Team’ or ‘Supporting the Therapies Teams’ in the second year.
Students who achieve this qualification could progress to ‘Supporting the Adult Nursing Team’ or ‘Supporting the Therapies Teams’.

- Dietitians
- Drama therapists
- Music therapists
- Occupational therapists
- Operating department practitioners
- Orthoptists
- Osteopaths
- Paramedics
- Physiotherapists
- Podiatrists
- Prosthetists and orthotists
- Diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers
- Speech and language therapists.

When you start the course, we will assign you a progress tutor who will support you throughout your time at college. Their role is to help you in setting academic and personal targets, creating a career plan, developing employability skills and monitoring your progress to make sure you realise your full potential.
The college has a specialist teaching ward equipped with:
- Interactive robots supported by the latest artificial intelligence to simulate patient care and observations
- A dissection table allowing learners to digitally dissect patients and understand associated health conditions.
- Hospital beds with pressure relief mattresses and dignity curtains
- SMART mannequins enabling learners to practice dressing and undressing, taking medical observations, using the hoists, applying dressings, and providing personal care
- Mannequins to support lifting and handling
- Hand washing facilities to practice infection prevention and control
- Residents’ bedroom to practice application of skills in a home setting
- Anatomy and physiology models to support knowledge of bodily systems.
What are T Levels?
If you’re academically minded but have a skilled career route in mind, a T Level will give you a head start into your chosen industry.
T Levels are two-year qualifications that have been designed in partnership with businesses and industry-leading employers so you can develop the skills and knowledge required to kick-start your career straight from college.
- 80/20 Learning - 80% college-based, 20% on a relevant work placement
- Employer endorsed - designed with employers to provide the skills that industry needs
- 1 T Level = 3 A Levels - T Levels are nationally-recognised qualifications, equivalent to 3 A Levels.
As an alternative next-step after GCSEs, a T Level also includes a mandatory 45-day (315 hours) work placement with a reputable employer within your chosen industry.
The qualification splits into core content and specialist content:
- Core content - develop your general understanding of the industry
- Specialist content - covers different topics depending on the pathway you choose.

What will I study?
Year 1
Core - Knowledge and understanding of contexts, concepts and theories of the health industry:
- Working within the health and science sector
- The healthcare sector
- Health, safety and environmental regulations in the health and science sector
- Health and safety regulations applicable in the healthcare sector
- Managing information and data within the health and science sector
- Managing personal information
- Good scientific and clinical practice
- Providing person-centred care
- Health and wellbeing
- Infection prevention and control in health specific settings
- Safeguarding.
You will study a core component for science which includes:
- Core science concepts
- Further science concepts in health.
You will also complete an Employer Set Project (ESP) in which you will need to undertake the following:
- Demonstrate person-centred care skills
- Communication.
To pass the first year of the qualification, you must successfully demonstrate the achievement of the core component which includes exams and the ESP which are graded from A* to E.
You will also need to successfully pass the first year of your placement.
Year 2
In the second year of this course - you will progress to your chosen pathway of either the Supporting the Adult Nursing Team or Supporting the Therapies Teams. Please see below for the occupational specialism units:
Supporting the Adult Nursing Team:
Supporting healthcare core/underpinning requirements:
- Assist with an individual’s overall care and needs to ensure comfort and wellbeing
- Assist registered health professionals with clinical or therapeutic tasks and interventions
- Undertake a range of physiological measurements.
Supporting the Adult Nursing Team:
- Assist the adult nursing team with clinical tasks
- Support individuals to meet activities of daily living
- Assist with skin integrity assessments and the care and treatment of skin conditions.
Supporting the Therapies Teams:
- Supporting healthcare core/underpinning requirements:
- Assist with an individual’s overall care and needs to ensure comfort and wellbeing
- Assist registered health professionals with clinical or therapeutic tasks and interventions
- Undertake a range of physiological measurements.
It is important that applicants meet the entry requirements as the quality of written communication will be assessed as part of their exams; students will also be assessed on their understanding and application of maths.
In addition to the above applicants must also complete a minimum of 315 hours industry placement to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for skilled employment in their chosen occupation. This placement will be provided by the college to ensure that it meets the required standards and will be based in a hospital setting.
English, maths and digital content are also embedded and contextualised within the health qualification content which all applicants must complete.
Entry requirements
This course is only available to 16-18 year olds.
- GCSEs grade 5-9 in English Language, Maths and Science plus two other GCSEs at grade 4-9.
OR
- Successful completion of a T Level Health and Science Transition Programme plus GCSEs at grade 5-9 in English Language, Maths and Science.
How long is the course?
Two years.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through examinations, practical assessments in class, and a project set by employers.
Upon completion you will be awarded an overall grade (Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*). A T Level is a nationally-recognised qualification and your certificate will reflect this and will display your overall grade.
The certificate will also explain your grade from A* to E for the core component and any occupational specialisms you will receive a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.
It will also record whether you’ve achieved the minimum requirements for your maths and English qualifications, completed an industry placement and met any other additional mandatory requirements.

This could include a Progress NTU offer, where you would receive an offer one grade below their standard offer.
