Preparing for Employment (Work Skills) - 18+ - Level 2

Overview

This is a 16 week programme designed for those wishing to prepare for the workplace, improve their job prospects and/or set up their own business following completion of a level 2 or 3 qualification.

This course includes elements of online learning both directed and self-directed. Attendance to college will be 2 days per week.

As part of the programme, students will study the Pearson BTEC Level 2 70 GLH Award in Workskills which designed for learners who are motivated by the prospect of work. This qualification will concentrate on knowledge and self-awareness for gaining work and developing insight into how to be successful to secure employment.

Entry requirements

  • Aged 18 or over at 31 August 2020.
  • Completion of a level 2 or 3 qualification.
  • Been a student of West Notts College in the previous academic year.

You will be supported to: 

  • Develop your CV 
  • Preparing for the recruitment process 
  • Network and build professional relationships 
  • Self-promote and develop your own online branding for career success e.g. as a freelance professional
  • How to develop a portfolio career and be self-employed
  • Develop a social media presence and other marketing initiatives for your business
  • Research and undertake industry recognised qualifications to enhance your skills in your chosen industry

Study programmes

It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
