Lead Adult Care Worker - Advanced Apprenticeship - Level 3
Overview
As a Lead Adult Care Worker you will make a positive difference to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges. You will be expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control.
In order to meet the apprenticeship standards apprentices must:
- Achieve the Level 3 Diploma Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (L3)
- Individuals without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment
Industry-specific requirements
Undertake the Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide the result prior to starting.
The individual must meet the 15 standards as set out in the Care Certificate. The Care Quality Commission expect that providers that employ healthcare assistants and social care support workers follow these standards to make sure new staff are supported, skilled and assessed as competent to carry out their roles.

- Promote Communication in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Engage in Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Promote Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Principles for Implementing Duty of Care in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care
- The Role of the Health and Social Care Worker
- Promote Person-Centred Approaches in Health and Social Care
- Promote and Implement Health and Safety in Health and Social Care
Functional skills English and maths at Level 2 if not already achieved.
Entry requirements
You will need to be aged 16 years and over and in a senior position or undertaking duties of a supervisory nature to apply for the Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker.
You will need to be working within a health and social care environment for a minimum of 16 hours per week.
You will undertake a Level 2 diagnostic assessment for maths and English prior to enrolment.
If you has passed maths and English GCSE with a grade A* to C or Key skills at level 2, you will be required to evidence this with a certificate/s which will then result in exemption from undertaking the maths and English functional skills qualification within the apprenticeship framework.
Study programmes - essential skills for employment
As an entry requirement on some of our courses, you will need a GCSE in both English and maths with at least a grade 4/C (please see entry requirements above).
If this isn’t displayed under the entry requirements and you don’t currently have a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4/C or above before joining us, you will then study English and maths as part of your programme with the aim of achieving a qualification with at least a grade 4/C. This is to help improve your chances of employment once you leave us.
In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.
How long is the course?
18 - 24 months
How will I be assessed?
All units will be assessed via assignments, witness testimonies, reflective accounts, professional discussion and observations.
To complete the apprentice standard you are required to undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA):
- Situational judgement test
- Professional discussion
What does the course lead to?
The course supports progression onto other related courses including:
- Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults)
- Level 5 Healthcare Assistant Practitioner Standard
- Level 5 Assistant Practitioner Diploma
- Foundation Degree Professional Development in Health and Social Care
You will be required to be in the appropriate role to support these qualifications.
