Learn Digital and IT for FREE* at West Notts College!
Aged 19+ and want to improve your digital and IT skills but don’t know where to start? Then our small, supportive, adult-only short courses are perfect for you.
These courses are designed as a pathway for people with little or no digital and IT skills to gain confidence and become digitally-literate with the option to progress all the way through to a digital skills qualification.
All learners are encouraged to contact the Adult Learning and Skills Team to determine your current skill level and offer suggestions of which course(s) are best suited to you. You may also be asked to complete an initial assessment at our Adult Learning Centre in the Old Town Hall, Mansfield.

Stage 1
IT for the Terrified
- Where: Old Town Hall, Mansfield (NG18 1HX)
- When: Fridays | 9.30-11.30am
- Upcoming start date(s): Friday 19 September

Do you have no IT skills and scared to try in case you break something?
This four-week course is an ideal opportunity for you to overcome these worries. As part of the course, you will learn basic digital and IT skills in very small groups alongside a supportive tutor.

After completing this course, you can progress on to our stage two course, Introduction to Digital Skills (below).
Stage 2
Introduction to Digital Skills
- Where: Old Town Hall, Mansfield (NG18 1HX)
- When: Mondays | 2.00-4.00pm

This 12-week course will give you an introduction to Microsoft Office products such as Word and PowerPoint, and using the internet. You will also increase your confidence in the use of online platforms and services, ensuring you are aware of how to use these platforms safely to protect your personal data. You will get the chance to learn the IT skills you need in very small groups alongside a supportive tutor.

Next Steps in Digital Skills

- When: Wednesdays | 2.30-4.30pm

- Cost: FREE*
This 12-week course will further develop your skills in Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel. You will learn how to use more advanced functions within the Microsoft Office packages, building on the skills developed in the previous course that will improve your confidence and help you to proficiently use your PC, laptop or tablet.

After completing this course, your course tutor will discuss progression opportunities with you.

- This course is only available to students aged 19+.
- No previous experience or skills are required.
What can I progress onto?
This qualification will bridge your digital knowledge gaps and provides vital skills needed in today’s technology focussed world. You could then progress from this qualification to further study such as our Access to Higher Education courses or employment.
