Overview
The purpose of this qualification is to develop knowledge of special educational needs and disabilities, how individuals with SEND are impacted on a day to day basis, and how to support them to live independent and fulfilling lives.
This qualification is designed for learners who are currently in a role related to SEND or those who are considering entering into the sector.

- Cost - FREE for adults aged 19 or over (as of 31 August 2024), regardless of employment status.

While this course may be offered to you free of charge, failure to complete the course may result in a £125 administration fee. This fee covers the administrative costs associated with non-completion.

What will I study?
This course is made up of a series of mandatory units:
- Introduction to Special Educational Needs and Disability
- Living with Special Educational Needs and Disability
- Principles of promoting person centred approach for individuals with SEND
- Understand Equality and Diversity in the context of SEND
- Understanding SEND and learning
Entry requirements
- No specific entry requirements
- Recommended: Minimum Level 2 in English and Maths (or equivalent)
- Applicants must live in England
- Applicants must not live in the locations listed here.
How long is the course?
- Total time to complete - 140 hours (including tutor lead guided learning hours).
Learners are expected to study and do aspects of their assessment portfolio in their own time.
How will I be assessed?
The qualification is assessed by internally set and marked assessments subject to external quality assurance.
All learning outcomes and assessment criteria must be met to achieve a Pass – there is no grading.

- Level 3 Award in the Principles of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
- Level 3 Award in the Role of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator in Private, Voluntary and Independent Early Years Settings
- Level 4 Certificate in Supporting the Learning of Learners with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)
- Level 4 Award in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Leadership and Management in the Early Years.
