Overview

The purpose of the qualification is to prepare learners for employment, including an apprenticeship, in a job role which includes customer service or to prepare them for further learning/training.

The mandatory and optional units cover a range of areas relevant to the sector allowing learners to tailor the content to meet their individual needs.

The distance learning courses are completely free for anyone aged 19 or over (on the 31st August 2024), irrespective of their current employment status, but applicants must live in the UK in a non-devolved area.

This fee covers the administrative costs associated with non-completion. What will I study?

This course is made up of a series of mandatory units:

  • Principles of team leading
  • Understand business
  • Understand how to communicate work-related information

Optional units include:

  • Health and safety procedures in the workplace
  • Principles of developing working relationships with colleagues
  • Principles of equality and diversity in the workplace
  • Principles of handling information and mail
  • Principles of managing performance and conflict in the workplace
  • Understand customers
  • Understand how to deliver customer service and resolve problems
  • Understand how to develop and deliver a presentation

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements, however learners should have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

All applicants must live in England and NOT live in one of the locations listed here.


How long is the course?

Total time to achieve this qualification is 190 hours.

Guided learning hours for this qualification is 170. These hours are made up of all contact time, guidance or supervision of a tutor.

Directed learning hours for this qualification is approximately 20 hours over the cycle of the programme.

Learners are expected to study and do aspects of their assessment portfolio in their own time.

How will I be assessed?

The qualification is assessed by internally set and marked assessments subject to external quality assurance.

All learning outcomes and assessment criteria must be met to achieve a Pass – there is no grading.
