Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement - Level 3

Overview

Often the first step into becoming an assessor, this qualification is open to people carrying out assessments and quality assurance in most learning environments including FE, Adult Continuing Learning, Employers and Third Sector.

This course is designed for anyone assessing and carrying out quality assurance in all occupational sectors, accredited learning, non-accredited learning (e.g. where performance is being assessed by the learner who is not undertaking a qualification) and qualifications on the National Qualification Framework (NQF).

Cost £810


The course fee can either be paid in full or in four instalments.

If you wish to pay in instalments, you will be required to pay 25% (£202.50) of the total fee on the day of enrolment and a Direct Debit mandate would then need to be completed to enable the college to collect a further three payments of £202.50 bi-monthly. The payments will be taken on the date you choose on the Direct Debit mandate form.

What will I study?

Unit 301 Understanding the principles and practices of assessment

Unit 302 Assess occupational competence in the work environment

Unit 303 Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding


Entry requirements

You must:

Be suitably qualified (preferably one level above) in the subject you will be assessing.

Have access to at least 2 candidates who you can plan and assess at least three units with.

Have Level 2 in maths and English or equivalent.

 


How long is the course?

Normally six months, but this can vary.  


How will I be assessed?

Module One:

Assessment is a knowledge-only award for those who are starting their journey as an assessor.  This will include theory with written work and an online assessment.

Modules Two and Three:

Assessment is completed by conducting live assessment of learners, including planning, implementing, and judgement and reviewing to support them.  There will be various methods assessed and will include best practices and standardisation activities.


What does the course lead to?

After you are qualified, you will be able to gain employment as an assessor or trainer either in your workplace or in a similar organisation with an internal workforce development scheme.


What can I progress onto?

Once completed you can progress to the:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 and 4 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector
  • The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
  • The Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
