Animal Care One Day Course – Introduction to Animal Nursing - Level 1

Overview

This one-day introductory course is designed for adults aged over 19 who are interested in pursuing a career as a veterinary nurse or simply want to gain a deeper understanding of animal care to help with looking after their own pets.

The course is perfect for those who are considering studying veterinary nursing or animal care at college or university.

During the course, you will learn the essential skills required for animal nursing, including handling, restraint, and health checking of a variety of animals, basic anatomy and physiology, surgical instrument care and identification, fluid therapy techniques, and more.

You will also have the opportunity to develop your communication skills as you work alongside experienced veterinary nurses. The course will be delivered through a combination of practical sessions and classroom-based learning.

You will have the chance to practice your skills on a range of animals including reptiles and small mammals. You will also have access to equipment used in veterinary practices.

At the end of the course, you will have gained a solid understanding of animal nursing, as well as practical skills that can be applied in a variety of settings.

*Learners must be aged 19 or over on 31 August 2024 to attend our adult courses.  Tuition fees are waived on many of our courses if you live in eligible postcodes, earn below £25,000 per year, are unemployed or economically inactive and receive benefits, or have low take-home pay with benefits. Entry requirements

  • No prior qualifications are required to attend this course.
  • Attendees must be aged 19 or over and have a genuine interest in animal care.

How long is the course?

  • 5 hours from 9.30am-2.30pm.

How will I be assessed?

  • This is a non-accredited course and therefore there is no formal assessment.
  • You will be expected to actively participate in the practical sessions and engage in class discussions.
