The NTU Work Inspiration Scheme offers students high quality, meaningful work experience placements.

Please note these placements are open to all students in and around Nottinghamshire which means they are very competitive so please apply as soon as possible with a selection of available dates that you would be able to attend

 

Below are the available work placement opportunities available at Nottingham Trent University for Professional Studies

 

Employability & Enterprise (E&E) (City Campus)

During a placement with E&E you will work as part as a team in an office environment, dealing with general administrative tasks. You can expect to gain experience of attending meetings, preparing materials, making arrangements and ordering resources for E&E activities and events. You may liaise with employers re. events as well as arrange and shadow at meetings with students to give employment and application advice for 12 month placements.

Please note: placement is only available in June.

 

Employability Team (Student Facing) Administrative Assistant (City Campus)

You will be able to experience what is like behind the scenes supporting university students with career guidance and helping them to find placements as part of their degree/graduate positions upon graduation. You will be attending meetings, developing resources for use by students and preparing materials. You will also be able to see CV and application advice given to students and shadow at meetings with students to give employment and application advice. You may have opportunity to travel to other Employment Centers at Clifton and Breckenhurst Campuses as part of your work experience.

 

Finance Assistant (City Campus)

You will learn about a wide variety of finance related tasks including Excel skills for reporting, production of reports for budget holders, invoicing and organising departmental records to ensure internal and external audit requirements are met. You will gain experience of various finance systems, including Cognos for information reporting.

 

Finance and Purchasing Assistant (City Campus)

You will learn about a wide variety of finance and purchasing related tasks including the tendering process, how the team protect the university, how they pay invoices and order goods and the systems used to do these tasks. You will undertake various purchasing tasks and can expect to gain experience in equality questionnaire scoring, e-tendering processes, finance systems, web updates, legal governance, data protection and invoicing.

 

Marketing Assistant – International Development Office (IDO) (City Campus)

Supporting the International Marketing Team I their delivery of international marketing. Particularly focusing on researching competitor universities and the differences and similarities in their online marketing approach. This week will be presented to the IDO team during the week. In addition, supporting the team by creating a student profile working with an international student at NTU, writing and editing this profile for an international audience. During the placement, you will gain experience working in an office environment and dealing with administrative tasks. You will work as part of an enthusiastic team and also work on tasks independently. You will use Power Point, Word or similar to capture and present your work.

Please note this placement is only available from January 2018 onwards

 

Nottingham Business School, Administrative Assistant (City Campus)

During a placement with Nottingham Business School NBS), you will provide administrative support to a team within the department; this may include some or all of the following: reception duties, filing, data entry, photocopying, diary management, general clerical and admin duties, telephone enquiries and incoming mail delivery. The object is to offer those interested in a career in Business, or Higher Education Administration an insight into what that involves. The placement is also ideal for those hoping to study Business at University.

 

Nottingham Law School Legal Advice Centre, Administrative Assistant (City Campus)

During this placement, you will spend half the time with the Nottingham Law School Legal Advice Centre, and half with the Law School Administration team. You will provide administrative support to a team within the department; this may include some or all of the following: reception duties, filing, data entry, photocopying, diary management, general clerical and admin duties, telephone enquiries and incoming mail delivery. The object is to offer those interested in a career in Law or Higher Education Administration an insight into what that involves.

 

Organisational Development Assistant (City Campus)

During a placement with the Centre for Professional Learning and Development (CPLD), you will co-ordinate the provision of national vocational qualification within NTU, develop resources for use in training events, prepare materials and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events. You will also experience working in an office environment and dealing with administrative tasks as part of an enthusiastic team, along with working on tasks independently using Microsoft Office packages and bespoke software installed within the University IT systems.

 

School of Social Sciences, Administrative Assistant (City Campus)

During a placement with the School of Social Sciences, you will provide administrative support to a team within the department; this may include some or all of the following: reception duties, filing, data entry, photocopying, diary management, general clerical and admin duties, telephone enquiries and incoming mail delivery. The object is to offer those interested in a career in Higher Education Administration an insight into what that involves.

 

Student Support Services Administrative Assistant (City Campus)

Suring a placement with Student Support Services (SSS) you can expect to gain experience in developing resources for students, preparing materials, making arrangements and ordering resources for activities and events, helping to deliver activities to students on campus and administrative work including filing, scanning, maintaining equipment and archiving.

 

SCCO Administration and Events Assistant

Nottingham Trent University offers a range of programmes for schools and colleges, to help high achieving pupils from disadvantaged background access and succeed at university. Schools, Colleges and Community Outreach (SCCO) coordinate these programmes. During a placement with SCCO, you will be given an overview of all the different teams within the departments, and will gain experience working in a busy and dynamic environment. You will chose from one of the specific functional areas and will spend the majority of time based within that team.

SCCO Administration and Events Assistant – Data, Research and Communication (DRC) Team (City Campus)

You will get experience of business and engagement meetings, social media platforms and campaigns, data and research projects and access to your subject area of interest – possibly attending a lecture/tour of department/meet academics/School staff.

SCCO Administration and Events Assistant - Progression Team (City Campus)

This team has many functions, providing you with an exciting and varied experience! You’ll get an insight into the coordination and delivery of NTU’s Welcome Week (Fresher’s Week) and Winter Welcome. You’ll also learn about Children’s University, Work Experience, Video & Media production & the NTU Progression Scheme which is a programme of opportunities designed for local young people aged 14-19, that offers support and guidance on their educational journey. This placement is ideal for anyone thinking about a career in Higher Education Project Management.

Please note - Placements are open to all students at Vision West Nottinghamshire College, this may result into the placement being allocated; we do advise all students interested in the placement to speak with the employer in the first instance to check that the placement is still available.

Once your work placement has been confirmed, and start & end dates have been agreed with your employer. Please follow the steps below in order to process you work placement application.

Step 1 - Complete the work placement application form on the work placement connect app, or complete a self-placement form, the form can be found here. This will advise the work placement team you have a confirmed work placement.

Step 2 - The work placement team will seek authorisation confirmation from your tutor, and then the health and safety documentation will be completed for you to start your placement.

Step 3 - The work placement team will then send you, your tutor and the employer an email to confirm your work placement is ‘ Ready to Go’. You MUST NOT START YOUR WORK PLACEMENT, until you have received the confirmation email.

A parental consent form must also be signed and passed to your tutor before you go on placement.
