NCFE CACHE Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care - Level 3

Overview

This is a vocational course equivalent to A Levels. You will be required to undertake work placements within the health and social care sector caring for a range of different client groups. There will also be an expectancy that you do voluntary work throughout the course.

Please note, you will need to complete the certificate before progressing to the extended diploma.

Entry requirements

Year 1: Five GCSEs with at least grade 4/C including English, maths and science; or a relevant Level 2 at merit level plus GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C. Plus a DBS check.

Year 2: Successful completion of year 1.

You will need to attend an interview with the tutor before being accepted on to the course. You may also need to supply at least one written reference from a teacher or employer (in some cases two) and/or your current school or college report.

Mature students (those aged 21 or over) who do not have the qualifications required for entry may still be eligible, subject to an interview. Relevant experience, a strong portfolio of work and a commitment to the subject you wish to study may be acceptable for certain courses.

* If you are aged 19-23 and studying your first Level 3 course then that course may be free. Please contact us for more details. If you are aged 19 or over and either studying a second Level 3 course or qualifying Level 4, 5 or 6 course you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the costs.

How long is the course?

One year for the certificate and then another year if you enrol on to the extended diploma.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through coursework, placement reports and an extended assessment.

What does the course lead to?

On successful completion of the certificate course you will have the opportunity to apply for the Technical Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care which is equivalent to three A Levels, and receives UCAS points.

Along with your work placement experiences and voluntary work, this qualification should enhance your employment prospects within the health and social care sectors in a range of roles.

It may also enable you to apply to progress onto Higher Education.

  • Safeguarding in health and social care
  • Communication in health and social care
  • Psychological perspectives in health and social care
  • Sociological perspectives in health and social care
  • Infection, prevention and control in health and social care
  • Working in health and social care
  • Reflective practice

Study programmes

It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
