An Introduction to Construction and Building Services (Multi-skill) - Entry Level
Overview
This study programme is designed as an introduction to construction and building Services and the skills and knowledge required to start a career in these industries.
Within this study programme you have the option of four different pathways:
- Pathway 1: Bricklaying and plastering
- Pathway 2: Painting & decorating and floor & wall tiling
- Pathway 3: Carpentry & joinery
- Pathway 4: Electrical installation and plumbing & heating.
Your choice of pathway will determine your progression route at the end of the course.
You will be taught by industry professionals in purpose-built facilities at our specialist Construction Centre at Station Park. The study programme consists of both theory and practical units so you will be studying in both a classroom and workshop environment.
English and maths is a vital part of your study programme and progression in both will determine your chances of progressing to your next level of study.
Entry requirements
This course is only available to 16-18 year olds.
A minimum GCSE grade 2/E in both English and maths plus an initial aptitude test.

What does the course lead to?
Working as a specialist in a specific subject area within construction or a maintenance professional either employed of self-employed of which large employers include the local council maintenance departments and schools.

Study programmes
It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
