Health-wise college is commended

West Nottinghamshire College is celebrating retaining a national accolade commending its dedication to promoting health and wellbeing to staff and students.

The Healthy FE and Skills certificate, led by the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE), has been re-awarded to the college in recognition of the good work it has been doing to instil healthy living amongst those who attend and work at the college.
This recognises the college’s co-ordinated approach with the NHS, local government and other health-related stakeholders in providing year-round healthy activities, aimed at informing people how to lead healthier lifestyles.
The two-year status of the Healthy FE and Skills certificate acknowledges some of the events and activities that the college has staged over the last academic year.
These included the offering of sexual health tutorials to all students, a ‘Question Time’ style health debate where students put topical matters out to a panel of NHS and government representatives, a successful Stoptober event which highlighted the dangers of smoking and the launch of a whole range of healthy food options in the college diners.
Student advice and progression manager Cate Hunt said: “As a college we’ve worked hard to ensure our students are engaged in as many of our annual health initiatives as possible.
“We’re proud to have great links with our local hospital and external health agencies who get involved in sharing advice on a range of health matters. We pride ourselves on putting together engaging, informative and inspirational health and welfare events at the college and we’re delighted to have been recognised with this award.”
