Work Placement: The Mill Adventure Base - Public Services

Job description

The Mill offers a mixture of land and water activities suitable for year 3 pupils and above. On land they offer team games, a low ropes course, outdoor and indoor climbing walls, a Jacob's ladder, a maze of underground tunnels and mountain biking. On the water customers can try raft building, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, sit on kayaks, disability sailing or inflatable fun.

You will be assisting/observing the team leader/tutor:

Delivery of the health and safety for all activities
Assist with set up and prep of equipment
Communicate with visitors and staff confidently

In preperation you will need to include the following in your application email:

  • Course and level of study
  • A genuine desire and your reasons why you want to  work at an outdoor centre in detail
  • Placements AVAILABLE June to Aug ONLY

Please do not apply to the Mill Adventure base directly! No emails will be answered, YOU MUST SPEAK TO THE WORK PLACEMENT TEAM!

Please note - Placements are open to all students at Vision West Nottinghamshire College, this may result into the placement being allocated; we do advise all students interested in the placement to speak with the employer in the first instance to check that the placement is still available.

Step 1 - Once you have a confirmed offer, in order to proceed with the work placement you will need to complete the work placement application form on Pro Portal, the form can be found under miscellaneous. (An accurate start and approximate end dates MUST be entered)

Step 2 - Your tutor will be asked to authorise your placement once you have fully completed your application form (remember to SAVE).

Step 3 - Once authorised, the work placement team will ensure the health and safety documentation for your placement is in place.

Step 4 - The work placement team will then send you, your tutor and the employer an email to confirm your work placement is ‘ Ready to Go’.

Step 5 – Collect a Progress Passport which you must complete on placement and ask your supervisor to sign off your hours and provide feedback on the last pages.

Step 6 – To check the status of your application, look at the note section at the bottom of your application form.

A parental consent form must also be signed and passed to your tutor before you go on placement.

We encourage you to secure your work placement as soon as possible. The deadline to have a placement agreed is Friday 8 Dec 2017.
