Dame Asha named one of Nottinghamshire's most influential women

West Nottinghamshire College principal and chief executive Dame Asha Khemka has been named as one of Nottinghamshire’s most influential women by the Nottingham Post newspaper.
Dame Asha was one of Nottinghamshire's most influential women.
To mark International Women's Day 2017 last week, the Post listed some of the top women to come out of the city and county.
It not only looked at women from the past, but also those who are making a mark in a very modern way.
Making the list of 13 women, Dame Asha features alongside famous and high-profile figures such as mathematician and writer Ada Lovelace, Olympic gold medal ice dancer Jayne Torvill, transgenda rights activist Paris Lees, Olympic double gold medal swimmer Rebecca Adlington, former director-general of M15 Dame Stella Rimington, and BAFTA-winning actress Vicky McClure.
The Post described how Dame Asha oversaw one of the largest colleges in the country, and in 2014 was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire – the first woman of Indian origin to be awarded the title since 1931.
